Hearts – english paper piecing (EPP) – Video tutorial

Well, here it is another EPP project you may enjoy making.

The shapes are larger than the previous ones I’ve made.

Let’s do a heart quilt

Printing the shapes

I recommend printing these shapes on thick card stock for better results.

Fabric collections

I used two beautiful Michael Miller collections:

My book Turnabout Patchwork

“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

Lucy Boston, Patchwork of the crosses – part 2

This is the second block of the Patchwork of the crosses by Lucy Boston.

Did you miss the first one? Patchwork of the crosses part 1.

Today I’m posting a tutorial on how to make Block 2.

In a third tutorial I’ll post how to put both blocks together.

What paper to use?

I print my EPP shapes on cardstock.

Recommended fabric collections

I made this project as Michael Miller’s Ambassador.

It turns out I love gingham, basics and directional prints in general and Michael Miller has a great range of those.

Lucy Boston, Patchwork of the crosses – part 1

Yes! Another English Paper Piecing project! This is the year of the EPP!

It could be that the uncertainty that is COVID-19 has made me want to do more meditative work such as hand sewing. Or it could be that if I don’t have something handy while I watch TV I fall asleep so it’s almost a necessity to have a hand sewing project going.

Patchwork of the Crosses was designed by English novelist Lucy M. Boston.

Today I’m posting a tutorial on how to make the blocks. Next time I’ll post a tutorial on joining the blocks together.

Colour chart quilt – Video tutorial

As a Michael Miller brand Ambassador for 2020 I’ve made a very simple quilt using just 2 of their 2 1/2″ precut strips with their beautiful Marble collection and Cotton couture.

Directions to make the quilt

Quilt size: 48″ x 61″.

Fabric needs

Cut the 31 strips into 1 1/4″ strips.

You will need 13 strips divided into 25 strips for the horizontal sashing.

The rest of the strips will be used in the vertical sashing and border.

Follow the video for assembly instructions.

The vertical sashing calls for 1 1/4″ x 57″ strips. Sew 2 strips together and cut to size once joined to the next strip.

Use the Colour chart colouring page (PDF) to plan the distribution of colour into a pleasing pattern. Check out the video for suggestions.

Little house quilt – Video tutorial

By now you should know I love English Paper Piecing (EPP) and I’m hoping I’m inspiring the same love in you.

EPP is great for using your fabric scraps and for having a project on the go. It’s also great preventing me from falling asleep at night while I watch TV.

So how to EPP?

Start with this very easy project. Perfect for using your small scraps.

What paper to use?

I print my EPP shapes on cardstock.
