Video tutorial: Seminole with diamonds

Video tutorial: Seminole with diamonds

“Created by the Native Americans of southern Florida, Seminole strip piecing is based on a simple form of decorative patchwork. Seminole strip piecing has uses in quilts, wall hangings, and traditional clothing. Seminole patchwork is created by joining a series of horizontal strips to produce repetitive geometric designs.” Wikipedia

This time I’m going a bit further with a diamond pattern. I can already see all the potential of this technique to make many intricate patterns.

Video tutorial: Half and half HSTs with 10 strips

One modern block, many quilts

This block has so much potential that I have made it twice.

Each block has 4 pieces and you can put it together in so many ways!

This is how I made this block

Fabric needs

  • Ten 10 inch x 1 1/2 inch strips in assorted prints or colours (the scrappier the better)
  • One 10 inch square piece of white fabric

This tutorial makes 4 HSTs which, arranged in different ways, make different blocks. Each block can make one or more quilt layouts.

The pattern contains cutting directions, fabric needs as well as a quilt assembly diagram. The pattern also contains a link to the block tutorial.

Block pieces

The tutorial produces the next 4 pieces that can be assembled into different layouts to make different quilt designs:

Video tutorial: Quilting with triangles 2

This the second in a series of tutorials about using equilateral triangles in quilting. I love all the different layouts you get and how by just varying the colours and the number of strips the results are quite different.
