My book Turnabout Patchwork

“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

This is a classic block and it’s so pretty.

I love fabric folding and other techniques that add texture to any garment or quilts.

These two blocks are great for fidgety quilts or just to add some textured touches.

Jacob’s ladder quilt block – video tutorial

Jacob’s ladder is a favourite block for lots of quilters. The block construction makes it perfect to come up with a variety of placement and therefore many quilt designs.

You can make it in two colours but it works just as well with more colours. Get down to it and experiment!

JACOB'S LADDER QUILT BLOCK

Two techniques to make half square triangles

Half square triangles or HSTs are the foundation for many blocks. You can see many different ones on the video.

HSTs can be made in many different ways. The techniques I demonstrate make 2 HSTs at once using 2 squares of contrasting fabrics and 8 half square triangles at once.

The 8 at once method sheds units with bias seams. Some quilters don’t like bias seams because they can be stretchy.
