Quilt in progress.
Adapted from Oh Fransson Quilt-Along. My quilt is square with 5 x 5 blocks rather than 5 x 6.
I used Heather Bailey Freshcut range of fabrics. Check out Heather Bailey’s Freshcut Flickr group for other projects using the same fabrics and Quilt-Along Flickr group for quilts with other combination of fabrics.
4 x 9inch Friendship blocks.
All blocks together.
4 x 9′ Not Quite Bow Ties blocks.
11 Fat quarters (9 for the Irish chain, one for the top border and one for the inside sleeve).
Cut 9 2 inch strips one out of each fat quarter and stitch together.
Stitch both ends together to make a tube.
Cut 4 strips across at 2 inch intervals and stitch to make an Irish chain.
Stitch together on the sides to make a sleeve.
Cut a rectangle 6.5i inch x 5 inch and stitch to the top of the Irish chain. Fold in half, iron and top stitch. Turn inside out.
Cut a rectangle 6.5 inch x 15.5 inch and stitch around 2 sides to make the inside of the sleeve.
Insert in the outer sleeve and fold the hem inside to match both inside and outside edges. Stitch sleeves together using a decorative stitch.
Stitch in ribbon on one side.
3 3/4 x 10 inch piece of felt for the inside
3 3/4 x 10 inch piece of cotton fabric
3 3/4 x 10 inch one sided fusible interfacing
Note: the slipcover has a very tight fit. Feel free to add an extra 1/4 or 1/2 inch to the width and height of the fabrics.
Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the cotton fabric.
Place felt and cotton fabric with right sides together and stitch all around except for a small 1 inch gap on the shorter side.
Trim corners. Turn inside out and iron flat.
Fold ribbon in half and place a small portion inside the 1 inch gap. Top stitch all along the narrow top on each side.
Fold in half and stitch both sides very close to the edge.
I used ribbon to stop the iPhone falling off the slipcover though the fit is so tight it’s not really necessary. It’s probably not very practical either when answering calls. But it looks good.
