The quilt on the cover of the book is called Flying rainbows. It illustrates the basic concept of my book Turnabout patchwork.

So easy yet so versatile. You will find 1 quilt pattern featuring this block in the book and 3 illustrated quilt-pattern variations.

So you can see all the variations in a real project we’re joined by Anorina of Samelia’s mum, Tammy of TamarinisBecca of Pretty Piney,  Laura of Slice of π QuiltsGretchen of Snug Harbor QuiltsRaewyn of Stitching Farmgirl and Sarah of Saroy

These fantastic quilt designers and quilters have made projects using a modern shoo fly block. Don’t forget to check their blogs to see their great work as well, read their experience with my book.

My book Turnabout Patchwork

“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

See all the quilts in the book in a real life project

  1. I think Flying Confetti is my favorite pattern! I love to make traditional blocks and cut them apart to create a “oohhh, that looks hard” block! Loving your book!

  2. I thought I left a comment but don’t see it. But the Flying Rainbows is my favorite although I love all of them. Haven’t gotten you book yet but have been eyeing it on amazon and it’s on my list so hope to have one soon.

  3. Love your book! I have a copy all ready. My favourite from this block would be the Flying Flags, but I’m seeing sailboats in there. Planning to give it a try to see what happens.

  7. I feel a mighty need to make a quilt using the Spring Fever variation. I’ve got a collection of France-themed fabrics that would make for a very interesting quilt, especially if I pair the prints with a hint-of-a-print batik.
