fabric scraps project free pattern patchwork sewing tutorial

Easter bunny basket

Based on Easter basket sewing and fabric basket tutorial.

Materials

  • fabric scraps
  • 2 buttons
  • 1 pom pom
  • batting
  • fusible interfacing

Follow the fabric basket tutorial to make up the patchwork basket and handles.

My basket has only one handle. My handle is made out of one strip of fabric measuring 2 1/2 in x 9 in and has fusible interfacing.

After assembling the patchwork and sewing the basket, add the embroidery.

If adding a bunny’s tail, stitch now.

Ears

I drew my own ears but you can download ears and embroidery pattern(pdf) from disdressed.

You will need 2 pieces of fusible interfacing, 2 of facing fabric and 2 of back fabric.

Iron the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the front fabric. Sew around ears with both fabrics right fabric facing together. Leave bottom opening to turn inside out.

Attach ears to basket as per photo below. Sew handle in the same way.

Sew the lining following fabric basket tutorial.

  1. Perfect timing. I would much rather make baskets than buy them. We are making the treats for the Easter goodie hunt so might as well make the baskets too. I wonder if I can get 5 done before Saturday morning. Thanks for making easy work for us.

  2. I’m getting started and I’m going to use old denim that I cut up a while ago, and I’m debating if I want the ears to be detachable…..hmmmm thanks again

  3. Thank you so much for sharing this. I made 2 for my granddaughters. In confused mode I managed to leave the handle inside the lining! So I just cut the handle off and re-attached it to the outside of the basket. I didn’t have time to patchwork; used some pretty floral fabric and added braid. Very happy with the result of my first ever baskets, you are a star.
