Block 6: silky grooves – Textured 4-patch quilt

Close up

Block type: 4-patch

Block size: 10 1/2 inches

Colour scheme: reds, greens and neutrals

Texture/fabric manipulation: layered fabrics

Cut:

  • one 5 1/2 in square in red fabric
  • one 6 in square in pale green
  • one 6 in square in red
  • two 5 1/2 in square in cream fabric
  • three 5 1/2 in square in white silk or some type of sheer fabric

Making the grooves

Place one cream fabric square, then the second one and then the three silk squares on top.

Now make a mark in the diagonal at 1/2 inch intervals.

Pin to hold all layers together.

Stitch along the marked lines.

Now, take a sharp pair of scissors and cut through the middle of each line.

Do that for all lines.

Square piece to 5 1/2 in.

Putting the block together

Cut all the other squares.

Take a 6 in pale green and a 6 in red square and place with right side facing together. Mark a diagonal line and pin.

Stitch at 1/4 in from the drawn line on each side.

Cut through the drawn line.

Iron flat and place the block pieces on a flat surface.

Stitch together.

The block is finished.
